The
National Register Lorain Station Historic District was created in 1994 to preserve the
commercial strip of Lorain Avenue stimulated by its location along the Lorain Avenue line
of the Woodland and West Side Railway (later Cleveland Railway Co.). The transportation corridor
was anchored by the car barn shops and offices that were located at West 98th and Lorain
Avenue. The commercial strip development and growth of residential areas (called "streetcar
suburbs") occurred while the car barns facility provided the basis for neighborhood development
through employment opportunities. In 1998, local Cleveland Landmark status was granted to
the district, also. |
